San Diego Opera presents "El último sueño de Frida y Diego"

I am thrilled to be joining the San Diego Opera Chorus in the World Premiere of this new opera by Grammy Award-winning composer Gabriela Lena Frank and Pulitzer Prize-winning librettist Nilo Cruz. Sung in Spanish with English/Spanish supertitles.

The opera is set during the celebration of Día de muertos (Day of the Dead), surrounded by candles and the fragrance of marigolds, the great muralist Diego Rivera longs to see his deceased wife Frida Kahlo once more. Catrina, the keeper of the souls, approaches Frida in the afterlife, and explains that Diego desperately needs his beloved wife as the end of his life approaches. For only 24 hours, Frida and Diego will relive their tumultuous love through their paintings and embrace the passion they shared.

Carmen - San Diego Opera

  • San Diego Civic Theater (map)

In March 2019, I'll once again have the privilege of singing with the San Diego Opera Chorus in Bizet's crowd-pleasing opera, "Carmen."

Carmen is one fiery gypsy woman…a femme fatale who lives life on her own provocative terms. The next notch on her belt is the naïve soldier Don Jose who is bewitched by her passion and gives up everything to be with her, including his sweetheart Micaela. In her true heartless fashion, Carmen becomes bored and callously drops her young lover when her path collides with the macho bullfighting Escamillo. Obsessed and alone, will Don Jose’s jealousy ignites an emotional bonfire that destroys them all.

Carmen is an archetype of literature and art set to passionate music that will burn up the stage with its unbridled drama and incredible music, including the “Toreador Song” and the seductive “Habanera.” Set in classic Spain, this traditional production has all of the lust, jealousy, revenge, and heart-stopping drama you’ve come to expect from Bizet’s powerful opera.

Sung in French with projected English translations.

The approximate run time is three hours and fifteen minutes, including one intermission.

The Marriage of Figaro - San Diego Opera

  • San Diego Civic Theater (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

I'm thrilled to be joining the chorus of San Diego Opera this October in Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro."

What is considered a “perfect” opera? Many look to Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro as the answer - a comic opera about a lecherous count who gets his comeuppance from his scheming servants. With some of the most recognizable music ever written for the opera stage, Mozart and his librettist Da Ponte, explore the rise of the servant class as they overthrow the ruling class with humor, wit, and biting satire. From the opening notes to the final curtain, Mozart’s score delivers a tangled love story that has delighted audiences for generations.

Sung in Italian with projected English translations.

The approximate run time is three hours and fifteen minutes, including one intermission.

Pacific Lyric Association Musical Paella

Enjoy an exquisite evening of Spanish culture in San Diego with some of the finest singers in the area, hosted by Pacific Lyric Association, San Diego's leading independent opera company. I'll be performing a wonderful selection of duets from opera and musical theatre, including the "Barcarolle" from The Tales of Hoffman and "People Will Say We're in Love" from Oklahoma.

Music and Song served up with a sumptuous paella dinner including sangria & fine wines. Just like the flavorful paella with its combination of fine quality ingredients, these evenings include a mix of many different musical styles including opera, American Musicals and Spanish Zarzuelas.
